Tasik Temenggor Discovery Island

Tasik Temenggor Discovery Island

We traveled by boat from one place to another. The first stop was the waterfall at Pulau Tujuh. The route to the waterfall was not really challenging for Fred and I since weve done a lot of hiking activities. Though, I found that other people were finding it quite challenging to get there. In my personal opinion, the water fall was nice but I was not that impressed. Maybe its because Ive just seen a greater waterfall in Langkawi just last week. Lesson here, you should start looking at the smaller ones first to keep up the excitement every time you see a waterfall.

The second stop was the orang asli village at Kg Chuweh. It was interesting to know that they actually have tarred road and even astro. We just sat around and let them watched us instead of us watching them. The children were very shy as they came slowly to get food from us and ran away very quickly once they got it just like a mouse, as Fred said.

The last stop was for Rafflesia flower sight seeing at Pulau Besar. At first I thought the track was more challenging but it turned out that it was only for a short distance. To our disappointment, we didnt get to see a blossomed Rafflesia flower. There were only buds. I guess we were not chosen to be among the lucky few that get to see a real blossomed Rafflesia flower.

By the time we came back to the boathouse, it was almost dark already. Some of us went for canoeing while some just went back to their room to get some rest. Later we had a western food dinner. I personally liked this dinner better than the last one and so did Fred. After that, we watched a presentation on hornbills.

The third day arrived, which means the last day. We had breakfast and got ready to leave the island and head back home. Overall, it was a unique adventure, being on a private island on a lake. I had lots of fun and it was a different kind of experience going back to nature. You can discover a lot of new things here. I guess thats why they call it Tasik Temenggor Discovery Island. In fact you can discover yourself here!

If you ever come here, hope you will be lucky enough to see elephants, a blooming Rafflesia flower, and hornbills. You can visit www.temenggor.com for more details.

La Gomera Island Life

La Gomera Island Life

Those who prefer to cook will be pleased to learn that Santiagos supermarkets are well-stocked and realistically priced.

In addition, the villages many cafs, bars and restaurants, several of which are situated next to the small, picturesque port, offer a choice of anglicised, and more local, fare – enabling you to select from a light snack or a multi-course tapas meal. (Be warned: many Gomerans think of the latter, as the former.)

For a special treat, you may also wish to enjoy one of the five restaurants at the luxurious Tecina Hotel and Golf Complex, which is owned and managed by the islands first family.

That family, the Olsens, is inextricably linked with Gomeran history, dating back more than a century. No one knows what prompted Norwegian Thomas Olsen, and later, his son Fred (father of the companys current President) to begin buying land in the area, in 1904. One assumes that he simply fell in love – with the island, and its inhabitants.

Despite turning a considerable profit – by securing control of the islands freshwater springs, and purchasing huge tracts of land at rock-bottom rates – the Olsens brought (and indeed, continue to bring) if not wealth, then at least prosperity, to the island: in those early days by, amongst other good works, establishing a functional irrigation system and opening the islands first school. And, more recently, as Gomeras biggest employer.

Today, the island survives and thrives almost entirely on tourism. Which is hardly surprising. For, in stark counterpoint to the more exotic pursuits mentioned earlier, its a place where you can also enjoy the familiar comforts of home not least: BBC TV and Radio 4; water direct from the tap; and a high standard of accommodation.

You dont even have to adjust your watch when you arrive.

In fact, tucked away in your exceptionally well-appointed apartment, thered be little to remind you that youre actually holidaying on an extinct volcano.

Save, of course, for that sublime climate.

The Rudiments Of French Cuisine.

The Rudiments Of French Cuisine.

The people living in France love their food and so they have perfected the art of making dishes which not only fill the stomach but also fill the heart of the person who eats them. As far back as the 1500s, it is acknowledged that French cuisine has been impacted by three aspects: 1. The incursions of Celtic Gauls resulted in the partition of land holdings, and the initiation of agricultural operations. 2. The conquering Romans who pioneered cheese making. 3. The marauding Moors who brought in goats to France. The Moorish impact held sway over the ingredients and cooking techniques in France. It is quoted the first French cookery books were greatly influenced by the exotic Moorish flavor. The earliest known groundwork for the present day French recipes has been established as far back as the 1500s. In this period, haute cuisine has been brought to French courts by a woman called Catherine de Medici, an Italian. Down the years, chefs have perfected the art of this style of cooking. The Italian inspiration has greatly changed French culinary recipes, the techniques, ingredients, and serving style. The Medici cooks brought about the use of butter, truffles, artichokes, innovative dishes, and cooking styles. The distinction between spicy and sugary dishes was also pioneered by them. In the year 1652, French culinary recipes progressed to using mushrooms, truffles, and spices to set off and enrich the flavor of food. The classical thick sauces gave way to delicate stocks and sauces, whereas meat is usually served in its own juice. At that time, a French cook called La Varenne, authored the first cookery book on French cuisine, with dishes listed alphabetically, together with cooking directions for vegetables. At present, French cuisine is based on the variations of the many regions of France. With each region being known for its celebrated culture, cuisine in France can be broadly classified into three categories: 1. French culinary recipes based on the northern regions of the nation comprises of trouts, pikes, salmon and birds. Meat dishes and tarts generally contain fruit. The famous Calvados and Camembert cheeses are also included in the preparation of their food. 2. French cuisine based on the regions of Central France is renowned throughout the country. The popular ingredients used in their dishes are red wine and garlic butter added to chicken or beef. The motivation to prepare innovative and home cooked food comes from Burgundy wines of this particular region. Homemade dishes are very central to this area of France. 3. French culinary recipes influenced by the southern regions of the nation comprise of olive oil, aubergines, tomatoes, Roquefort cheese, wild mushrooms, and garlic. In addition, the exotic range of seafood of this region greatly augments the reputation of its food. Amaretto Flavored Tea

Amaretto Flavored Tea

Amaretto flavored tea is great for experiencing the smooth almond taste connected with amaretto but without the effects of the alcohol. It has a velvety feel in the mouth and makes a great after dinner tea. This amber-red liqueur is enjoyable in all its many forms including tea drinks.

If you enjoy learning about the history of things, you might find one story of how amaretto came about a little interesting.

Amaretto means a little bitter in Italian. Now, would you believe the first bottle of amaretto made was because of a love affair? It’s certainly colorful and as rumors go, entertaining. The painter, Bernardino Luini, who created the Madonna fresco in the Santa Maria delle Grazie Church located in Saronno, Italy, received the handmade gift from the innkeeper. Not unusual, except that the innkeeper’s romantic interest, which inspired the creation of the liqueur, had grown while posing as a model for Bernardino.

You might also be interested to know that the almond flavor associated with amaretto comes from apricot stones, or pits. The original drink was probably made from grape brandy in which apricot stones were left to soak, or infuse. Accidents have been the catalyst for many of the beautiful and functional things we have today, but whether amaretto came about by accident, or intentional, we have no idea.

Amaretto flavored tea is made in different forms. You can, for instance, add the syrup directly to the teapot, for an ultra-fresh and delicious tea. You can also buy green and black teas with amaretto flavoring. This comes in handy if you sometimes like to disguise the grassy flavor of green tea. We like to mix things up sometimes so we frequently buy syrups to add flavors to our usual teas.

Being creative with your tea is a lot of fun and drinking amaretto flavored tea is a great new alternative to the usual tastes and flavors of traditional teas. Make sure to try this tea and remember that teas like this can be enjoyed year around, and any time of day.
